The bright light, and the smell of amniotic fluid that dripped from their bodies was common place. Memories haunted them. Gabe would rather forget, but images of World War III threatening total annihilation of human life was a little too influential to let go. It seemed as though all distinction of freedom and happiness was superfluous, until Jonathan and Gabe were asked to participate in a humanitarian project, one that would allow the human race to start over - and start right. Jonathans work with cloning allowed them to be reborn, that they might visit their new society and decide if things were leading to freedom. The failure of the project was astounding, and they started over again and again hoping against hope to get it right. Each time was a failure, until the fifth time when they meet May and Dane and they see the possibilities of a people without war, that is, until they realize that they are also without freedom.
